Onkyo A-9555S Integrated Digital Stereo Amplifier (Silver) Overviews

Onkyo Digital 85 Watt Stereo Receiver

Onkyo A-9555S Integrated Digital Stereo Amplifier (Silver) Specifications

Digital amplification enables significant power efficiency savings and supports smaller, more compact designs—obvious benefits for today’s home lifestyles. However, at Onkyo, we believe that these benefits should not come at the expense of the most important consideration: sound quality. With the A-9555S integrated digital amplifier, sound quality takes precedence over all else. By using Onkyo’s exclusive Vector Linear (VL) Digital technology to remove any spike noise before it introduces errors into the inversion timing, it is possible to get a highly accurate analog-to-digital conversion. Also, at the heart of the A-9555 is a Pure Stream Power Supply—essentially a large power transformer—that ensures that you always have the on-demand power for the clarity and detail of a range of musical genres. By integrating the fundamentals of audio amplification with the potential of digital amplification, the A-9555 is a revelation in superior audio reproduction.

Key technology Features:
RI (Remote Interactive): With Onkyo’s exclusive RI (Remote Interactive) system capability, you can integrate and operate all compatible components through a single remote control. What’s more, RI capability enables you to simply connect the iPod® to your receiver through Onkyo’s RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component from which you can relish a fuller sound that just can’t be experienced through headphones. RI capability will also give you remote operability of your iPod for hands-off control over your digital music.

VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry): Conventional D/A conversion methods reduce digital pulse noise at the conversion stage but can’t remove it completely. Previously only found on our high-end components, VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to overcome this problem. Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result — a virtually noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source to bring out even the most subtle of nuances in your music, movie soundtracks and even MP3s.

Customer Review

Best Customer Review : I had been looking for an amplifier for a couple of months to satisfied my reborn
interest in vinyl which was sparked with the Audio-Technica AT-PL120 I purchased earlier this year. I had originally bought the AT to digitize my old albums many of which were not available on CD but most importantly, the cost of replacing so many records (..so little time). On my way to all digital, something funny happened. I was suddenly reminded of how pleasant analog is/was. I began to play all my old records and after putting a couple to cd I stopped and just started listening to them. Like I use to do back in paleolithic times.
Of course after hearing what was I soon wanted what could be. An analog lovers plight. Black Hole would actually be more apt. First step replace the OEM cartridge to a Shure M97xE. Next upgrade to the Music Hall P1.2 phono preamplifier. Next a new turntable mat-I made my own out of cork and Sorbothane. Much better, for about three months. Something was missing. I needed a new amp.
I was getting ready to spend about 00 for a power amplifier. I looked up the usual suspects; Adcom, NAD, Parasound, Rotel and newcomer Vincent. I would use the amp in conjunction with my A/V receiver, the Yamaha RX-V663 which I would use as a preamp. It has pre-outs for its main and surround channels.
But then I read Stereophiles Recommended Components for 2009. And there amongst 0,0000 turntables,,000 tonearms, ,000 cartridges and ,000 mono block power amplifiers was the Onkyo A-9555, list price:0. What's up with this? I did some more research. And then some more research. I was about to go down to J@R Music World to listen to it, but when they put it on sale for just over 0, I pounced on it like Kirstie Alley on a Big Mac. I figured I could always return it and I could listen to it in my listening room with my own speakers!
I know from experience that any audio gear needs time to break in, but if what I heard is a sign 'Of Things To Come', punch my ticket and beam me up Scotty. How sweet it is!(Now I'm getting carried away, sorry about that). But seriously (Airplane anyone?), This amp is fantastic. The overall sound is rich, warm and tube like. Not really tube but tube-like. Almost like my old Fisher 500-C all-tube tube receiver, yet with a more robust powerful bass. The bass is not as tight as as more expensive amps but tight bass and a tight wallet never did go well together. But considering its price point it is full and bloomy yet you can here the individual strings as they are plucked.
As others have mentioned the highs do roll of a bit so system matching is a must.
If your system leans towards the lush already adding more greenery will only make
it harder to tell the forest from the trees. I found that the Audio-Technica AT-440MLa, a bright-some say overly bright-cartridge works for me. As for digiatl audio the Onkyo takes away some of the high frequency shrill I find so annoying in many (most?) CDs. All-in-all a sweet heart of an amplifier with a fairly deep and wide soundstage and excellent imaging. Highly recommended! Two thumbs up and a bag of chips.

By-the-way I've always found Ms. Alley to be and extremely beautiful women. No matter what size.

Customer Review 1 : Excellent! - Ji Shen - Tallahassee, FL
It is my first integrated amp so I don't have much to compare with.
I read many reviews including some amp competition held in 2008. It seems this amp is very impressive at this price range. I got the refurbished version for 450 dollars only. So I would say it is 5 star for this price.

I own Onkyo 605 and 606, Wharfedale 9.5 and 9.6. This amp obviously produce better and clearer sound. You will definately hear more details than before. A good cable is a must buy. I used Monsters M850i(about 40 dollars). It substantially improved the sound quality comparing to a normal cable.

I still doubt why the amp doesn't provide a digital input since CD is already digitalized. Or these companies just want to get more money from selling over priced CD palyer and audio cables!!

Onkyo M-282 2-Channel Power Amplifier Overviews

2 Channel Power Amplifier providing 100 watts of power per channel.

Onkyo M-282 2-Channel Power Amplifier Specifications

Ideal for quality stereo listening, for expanding your surround system from 5.1 to 6.1 or 7.1 channels to deliver the latest home theater surround formats, and for multiroom setups, Onkyo's M-282 stereo power amplifier makes a powerful and affordable system upgrade. The amp uses Onkyo's exclusive Wide Range Amplifier Technology and pumps 2 x 100 watts per channel RMS into 8 ohm speakers and 2 x 125 wpc into 6 ohms. (For dynamic power handling, you're looking at 2 x 140 watts into 8 ohms, 2 x 125 watts into 6 ohms.)

If you're going for an upgrade from 5.1 to 7.1, make sure your 5.1 surround receiver has preamplifier outputs for 7.1 channels. The M-282 only amplifies a line-level signal; it does not include surround processing or a volume control like a traditional preamplifier or an integrated amplifier/surround receiver.

You can rig the amp to power up when it senses an audio signal or through the use of a 12-volt trigger (standard to automation systems). The receiver also features audio passthrough jacks in case you want to daisy-chain several like components through several rooms for multi-room distribution of your primary listening source.

The receiver uses Onkyo's Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT), which ensures signal accuracy even with high-resolution sources such as DVD-Audio and SACD. According to Onkyo, WRAT eliminates the adverse effects of counter-electromotive force by applying an unusually low amount of NFB (negative feedback), constructing the amp with carefully selected, high-tolerance, wide-range parts in all critical sections, and using innovative circuit topology based on the company's decades of experience building high-end amplifiers. The result? A flat response beyond 100 kHz.

Rear-panel connections and controls consist of a ground (use only if the system exhibits an audible hum), an input-level adjustment, 1 each stereo analog (left/right) RCA audio input and passthrough/output, a trigger setting (audio, 12-volt, off), a 12-volt trigger input jack, left/right speaker outputs with banana-plug-friendly binding-post speaker terminals, and a grounded AC power terminal.

What's in the Box
Power amplifier, an AC power cord, and a user's manual.

Customer Review

Best Customer Review : About the only thing I didn't like about my 40-inch Sony LCD HDTV (KDL-V40XBR1) was the undistinguished sound of its built-in speakers. I solved the problem with this Onkyo power amp in combination with a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 40 2-way bookshelf speakers. The audio output of the TV is fed into the RCA-type audio input of the Onkyo amp. I set Onkyo's volume control (placed on the back of the unit) about a half-way point, and control TV's volume with the Sony TV remote. The resulting sound is much better than the low-fi sound from the TV's built-in sound system -- richer and better defined. The Onkyo amp just sits on a lower-level of the TV stand; I don't have to do anything with it. My black Onkyo unit is almost invisible. When I power up the TV, in a few unnoticeable seconds the Onkyo amp's IDLE mode changes to ON mode, and the sound comes out of the Polk speakers. When I turn the TV off, the amp returns to the idle mode. It's as though the Onkyo power amp were built into the TV. I don't detect any noticeable hum from it, and it does not generate excess heat, as some reviewers complained about. For my rather basic needs, this is an ideal solution. I am totally satisfied with this Onkyo power amp.

Customer Review 1 : It lasted about 30 minutes past the warranty - Robert Borzelleri -
I had this amp set up to power a distributed stereo signal to feed the rest of the house for background music. While it worked for the warranty period reasonably well, it did shut itself off for reasons that never were readily apparent.

Then one day, it tripped off never to come on again. Onkyo service is an exercise in all that is bad with customer service for electronic equipment. If it's out of warranty by even a day, the nature of the discussion with the service tech becomes akin to wading through sludge.

Bottom line, it would cost more to fix it than the cost of a new one. It is a door stop and I bought two Audiosource amps and am quite happy, thank you. I am done with Onkyo.

Customer Review 2 : Excellent - Vitius Altius Fortius - California
Excellent product and great price. Clean and crisp power to speakers. Minimal heat generation. Highly recommended.
