Customer Review Best Customer Review : This is great. In a nutshell unbeatable value. Had the HT-RC 160 for a week now. I've had a couple of HT receivers over the past 5 years to be able to compare this thing to. A JVC, Harman Kardon, Yamaha & the Onkyo TX-SR 805. The HT-RC 160 has to be a no frills value leader. I mean 5 HDMI Inputs + Analog Video Unconversion + HDMI repeater. I replaced my Yamaha RX V365 with this, which I had bought about 6 months ago. The Yamaha was good but had to go because of only 2 HDMI inputs, no Video upconversion and HDMI Passthrough only. If your putting a TV on a wall and want only one single HDMI running thru the wall to take all your inputs to your TV you will most likely need a receiver with Video Upconversion. That way the non HDMI sources e.g. Wii which is component can be upconverted via your single HDMI input to the TV. Besides the functions, this thing sounds good. Ofcourse considering a low to mid price integrated receiver with all these functions. The set up was a breeze. If you've hooked up an AV receiver before this takes about 15 mins if not less. The Owners Manual appears OK if you need it. Beside the sound, I guess I'd comment on the Remote. I found the Remote lay out to be slightly below expectations. The other receivers I've used had a better remote layout. The Volume controls on this are not where you'd intuitively expect them to be. Overall the layout is somewhat lacking. Also in terms of fit and finish particularly the Display on the unit dont expect a whole lot. Makes sense all the money that is paid for this is going into the Sound, features and functions, there is'nt much left after that to spend on the aesthetics. This is a great sounding, loaded with features, Super Value receiver. With a few minor misses, I would still say this is a 5 Star receiver. Highly recommended. I did a fair bit of research in buying this and would strongly recommend to anyone creating a mid priced Home Theater Set up. Onkyo is a very tough competitor in this space I'd say. Customer Review 2 : Excellent Review - L. Pruss - This is an excellent buy. The number of component, hdmi, and digital inputs and outputs is great and has let us plug in a PS2, Wii, DVD player, and Satellite receiver, plus the occasional network media device. While the number may not be different than other receivers, it's the upstreaming that is great - each of those devices works on a different output (digital, HD, component, etc.) and each one looks great on the system. In addition, we have a ceiling speaker system, and the sound is really fine tuned and delivers excellent sound quality for each of the foregoing devices. We are happy with this buy. Ok, this device is great, was a breeze to set up. The two faults that I see: (1) the remote does not have a "record" button for the DVR (although it otherwise controls that device just wine); and (2) (and this is just my own annoyance), I dislike that you can't rename the inputs (although they are eminently assignable). |
