Customer Review Best Customer Review : Let me tell you a little about me so you can figure out whether or not you think you would by this product. I love movies, am not rich (yet), and have a PS2, PS3, Wii, and a 46" SONY BRAVIA 1080p TV. For the longest time I wanted a surround sound system so that I could enjoy my movies with the beautiful sound they were capable of. I agonized whether I should go for the 7.1 instead of the 5.1 Onkyo system. My ultimate reasoning came down to this, if a blu-ray movie can output to 7.1 channels why get a system that eventually will miss those two other channels which will likely be used as newer movies come out. Now what stopped me from going to the more expensive 7.1 Onkyo system was thinking, 'well if I already am spending more money to get those two channels do I really need to pay even more for something that I will surely like (THX certification) and want, but will cutting deeply into my funds because of it.' And the answer was that I didn't need to spend more because I had already gone the financial distance to get to this level. Now if you have decided that this is the price range and this is what you want then you will definitely get a good product. I hooked up my PS3 to this system to watch blu-rays and play games. The movies were awesome. Especially Pan's Labyrinth, which is one of the few blu-rays that I am aware of that boasts the full 7.1 channels. The explosions in the movie were so loud and real I could hear the people above my apartment scrambling and freaking out, which eventually lead to a complaint to lower the volume. The games I have played with the system are Resistance 2, MGS4 which were both awesome to hear bad guys walking around about to kill you. I also am playing Silent Hill:Shattered memories on the Wii, which is amazing and an extreme amount of tension when you can hear a freaky creature about to attack you that you have to physically (with wii controller motion) push off. My only complaint about the system is that the upscaling kind of sucked. I was hoping that this system would be able to upscale my PS2 games to 1080i so that I wouldn't have to buy component cables but it a sucky job of it. That however may be a matter of the signal out that came from the PS2. I didn't fully research wether the Onkyo system could actually do what I wanted it to do for the PS2 so I don't blame the system entirely. This is more of a beware for those of you who have a just a DVD player that expect the image quality to improve or something. I ended up buying the component cables and fed it to the Onkyo receiver and the picture was fine. I have actually owned this product this product for a little less than a year now but have just gotten around to reviewing it. I highly recommend this product and don't have any regrets. However, one thing to be aware of is that you will likely have to buy speaker stands if you don't want to drill holes in your wall (i.e. add another ~0 for full setup). Customer Review 2 : I can do it all with this. - Andrew D. Brown - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania After researching and researching and researching I finally picked the Onkyo HT-S6100 7.1 surround sound speaker package. I love it. I currently have my PS3, Ipod, HDTV, and my HD cable box all hooked up to it!! It's all hooked up in HD and it looks and sounds great with all of them. I had a party at my apartment and was playing my Ipod thru it and it BUMPS. It's really easy to set up (all wires are color coded) and it is really easy to use. Granted I am pretty technically savvy, but even if you weren't I don't the set up and use being that hard. I don't see any cons with this product, and I got a refurbished one too and it was in perfect condition. |
