ONKYO TX-SR502B 6.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver - BLACK REFURBISHED Overviews

Delivering an amazing number of features and a stunning degree of quality for its affordable price, this refurbished Onkyo TX-SR502B 6.1-channel surround receiver is ideal for home theater novices as well as budget-conscious veterans planning an upgrade from 5.1 to 6.1. Those new to home theater will sigh in relief at the receiver's user-friendly design, which features color-coded inputs and outputs, a logically laid-out front panel, and an easy-to-use, preprogrammed remote control.

Those looking to upgrade their current home theater receiver will be impressed with the receiver's six, high-current channels (75 watts per channel) and processing for all major surround formats, and then some, including Dolby Digital EX (6.1), Dolby Pro Logic IIx, and a range of high-quality DTS formats like DTS 96/24.

Further, Onkyo includes a number of exclusive audio-enhancing features and technologies, like discrete output stages, a reduced-NFB (negative feedback) design, and CinemaFILTER (to yield the smoothest sound at any volume). Onkyo's WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) gives the power stage a linear frequency response from 10 Hz to 100 kHz to ensure it’s up to the challenge of the most demanding audio sources, such as SACD and DVD-Audio.

The unit's fluorescent dot-matrix display speeds and simplifies setup and operation, including variable speaker configuration and distance settings for simple optimization of any speaker arrangement. With the adjustable crossover on the subwoofer's pre-out channel (new to this model), you can set the upper limit of the LFE signal at 60, 80, 100, 120, or 150 Hz for seamless integration of any satellite and subwoofer combination.

The TX-SR502B handles a range of audio and video components, from front-panel audio/video/S-video jacks for simple hookups with camcorders, game consoles, and VCRs (4 AV/S inputs total), to multiple rear-panel connections, including 2 HDTV-capable component-video inputs with 50 MHz bandwidth, a VCR input, inputs for a CD player and audio recorder (CD, minidisc, cassette, etc.), a set of multichannel RCA analog inputs (perfect for use with a DVD-Audio or SACD player's high-resolution analog outputs), and a quartet of assignable digital-audio ins (3 optical, 1 coaxial) for DVD players, a satellite receiver, a DVD player, and other gear.

Routing your DVD player's and VCR's audio and video signals to the receiver before sending them on to your TV simplifies AV source switching, since you can do it all with the receiver's remote rather than having to switch inputs on your receiver and your television.

Customer Review

Best Customer Review : Everything about this product is evidence of high quality and detail.
It works beautifully, has a very warm, neutral sound stage, low noise levels and an exceedingly good FM tuner with a sensitive receiver...rare in any model of receiver today.

The speaker connection terminals work well, but because of the Surround sound requirement for so many terminals, the connection space is rather cramped...and that is my only negative comment. Other brands have even more cramped and poorly laid out connections, so this is a minor gripe.

Women seem especially happy with the Onkyo sound and relatively straight forward controls and settings on the remote. The manual is very easy to read, and is unusually detailed in depicting a variety of component hook up examples. Most users will find this very helpful and very friendly!

I highly recommend Onkyo products for reliability, quality and appearance.
