Onkyo TX-SR707 7.2-Channel A/V Surround Home Theater Receiver Features
Onkyo TX-SR707 7.2-Channel A/V Surround Home Theater Receiver Overviews Building on Onkyo’s fine legacy in the popular mid-range AVR category, the TX-SR707 offers a wealth of audio and video features that combine to earn it the prestigious quality assurance of THX Select2 Plus . On the connectivity side, six HDMI 1.3a inputs handle all your high-def sources, while also transporting video signals upscaled to 1080p via Faroudja DCDi Cinema . Along with the pristine, lossless audio of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio , the TX-SR707 handles two new surround formats: Audyssey DSX and Dolby Pro Logic IIz. These formats open up an immersive vertical dimension for games and movies, and bring more flexibility to your speaker set-up. As well as advanced Burr-Brown audio DACs, the TX-SR707 incorporates Audyssey equalization technologies to ensure an audio balance that fits your room like a glove. Peripheral devices are looked after by a Universal Port, while a customizable remote controller puts you firmly in charge. Pound for pound, the TX-SR707 stands out as a muscular and versatile middleweight contender. Related Products
Customer Review Best Customer Review : My background: I was a high end audio salesman for 2 years. I sold Meridian, B&W, B&O, Marantz, Mac, Adcom, Denon etc. I have heard many, many speakers on many different amplifiers and receivers. My equipment: Onkyo 707, Polk Monitor 70's, Kef Q55, Polk RT55b, Energy Sub and Boston Acoustics HD5 Pros: HDMI works very well, the picture is somewhat dark however there are adjustments on the707. Xbox and Comcast pass perfectly. On screen display is very nice. The physical front display is very nice and the receiver looks great on the rack. The sound quality is very good, mind you not great. But for the price paid this is a bargain. There are a tremendous wealth of sound fields and DSP to choose from. The buttons on the remote are laid out for Music, Movies, Gaming and THX. A very nice touch and ease of use. You can mix Dolby Digital, Dolby Height and THX in one sound field; VERY NICE! Audessy setup works very well; requires a few tweaks but otherwise nice feature. Audessy dynamic volume works great. No more jumping for the remote to turn down commercials. THIS OPTION ALONE IS WORTH THE PRICE OF THIS RECEIVER! Cons: On screen display is only in white. When a light of white background is being displayed you cannot see the on screen. Onkyo a chance to change the color of text would be very nice. The unit runs VERY HOT even at normal listening. Onkyo please install a FAN!!! You cannot adjust the speaker levels without losing the signal. It is very difficult to change speaker levels, EQ etc. without the sound??? My old 600 would allow a simple one button push to change settings and levels. The remote NEEDS a light. While it works fantastic the labels are squished and very, very difficult to see or use. I am very accustomed to memorizing remote layouts but this one is tough. The unit has an EQ option, you can set the EQ separately per set of speakers. I.E. Front, Front height, rear, sub etc. However it does not really work properly; 10db or - or + of 9 bands and barely hear the difference. Overall this is a very good product and capable. I am worried about the heat and possible problems in the future. I use AMEX that doubles the factory warranty FYI Customer Review 1 : Great receiver - KWS - Hilton Head SC I really like this receiver. I Replaced a high-end Yamaha receiver and the difference is significant. I believe the multEQ set up to balance the speakers was a major part. With the balance far exceeding what I had the clarity of my speakers is now enhanced, significantly. I had the need to advance to digital. I then went with the name, the reviews of others and price in order to make my decision to purchase the Onkyo TX-SR707. I bought through Amazon and was able to get a great price. I have had to call Onkyo for help. It sounded like the support was reading from the screen to help me, but I was happy some one was there to help. I was able to dope out my problems and now have an excellent sounding system. The receiver is adequate with sufficient inputs and outputs for most homes with a mixture of analog and digital equipment and when I do acquire more digital there is more than adequate HDMI hook ups. Sure it gets warm, no more than what I am use to. Yes I recommend this receiver. Customer Review 2 : Great Sound (When it works) - Chris from Norman, OK - Norman, OK I bought this unit and it was easy to set up and had great sound using 5 speakers and a sub. I used all HDMI from Blu-Ray and the Cable Box and then to the TV from the receiver. This Unit had trouble with the Cable Box and switching signal and sound types. Each time it made a loud popping noise and eventually it tripped the unit. From that point on it tripped ever time I turned it on and turned it up just a little. It even tripped on the Blu-Ray player after that point. I followed all the instructions on testing the unit by unplugging everything and turning it up all the way and then slowly tested each thing to make sure a speaker, sub or specific cable box was not tripping it (used other cable boxes). I did a hard reset on it twice then reprogrammed it. Onkyo's solution was to not use the HDMI which was the main reason I bought the unit so I tried using Digital Audio only and having the video signal go straight to the TV. It still tripped the unit. Could have had a lemon but I am not chancing it. I finally sent it back and I ordered a Yamaha. |
